Six students from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia achieved a remarkable international milestone today by securing six prestigious medals at the 29th Balkan Mathematical Olympiad for Juniors 2025, held in North Macedonia from June 24 to 29, 2025. The competition welcomed 135 students representing 23 countries from around the world.

Saudi students earned two gold medals, two silver medals, and two bronze medals, once again demonstrating their competitive edge and academic excellence on the global stage.

The winning team included Abdullah Tariq Al-Amer from the General Directorate of Education in the Eastern Province, and Abdulilah Mohammed Al-Saqqaf from the General Directorate of Education in Jeddah, both of whom were awarded gold medals.

Silver medals were earned by Yasser Mohammed Habiballah from the Royal Commission Education Directorate in Yanbu, and Mohammed Ali Sheiban from the Royal Commission Education Directorate in Jubail.

Bronze medals went to Abdulrahman Shawqi Mansour, and Bilal Nafea Al-Hujaili, both from General Directorate of Education in Medina.

This accomplishment is the result of years of intensive training under the guidance of the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

Their joint efforts aim to identify, foster, and prepare gifted students for international competitions. The team members were selected after successfully passing a series of rigorous evaluations as part of the National Program for Gifted Identification, and underwent advanced scientific training camps led by a distinguished group of both local and international coaches.

This marks the Kingdom’s 14th participation in the competition, bringing its total medal count to 11 gold, 24 silver, and 29 bronze medals. These results underscore the steady and qualitative progress of Saudi Arabia’s performance year after year. By comparison, the Kingdom’s previous participation in the Balkan Mathematical Olympiad for Juniors yielded one silver and four bronze medals.

The Balkan Mathematical Olympiad for Juniors was first launched in 1997 in Yugoslavia and is held annually, with each participating country allowed a maximum of six students per team. The competition is hosted in rotation by the Balkan countries along with Cyprus and is regarded as one of the most prestigious regional mathematics contests. It targets students under the age of fifteen and is conducted over a single day, during which participants tackle a series of challenging, high-level mathematical problems.
