Six Saudi students achieved a remarkable international feat today, winning six medals at the 29th Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (JBMO 2025), held in North Macedonia, from 24 to 29 June, with 135 students from 23 countries participating.
The Saudi team claimed two gold, two silver, and two bronze medals, reaffirming their competitive edge and scientific excellence on the global stage.
The gold medals were won by Abdullah Tareq Al-Amer – the General Directorate of Education in the Eastern Province, and Abdullilah Mohammed Al-Saqqaf – the General Directorate of Education in Jeddah.
Silver medals went to Yasser Mohammed Habiballah – the Royal Commission of Education in Yanbu, and Mohammed Ali Shaiban – the Royal Commission of Education in Jubail.
Bronze medals were awarded to Abdulrahman Shawqi Mansour and Bilal Nafi’ Al-Hajili – the General Directorate of Education in Madinah.
This achievement is the result of intensive, multi-year training, supervised by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) in partnership with the Ministry of Education, aimed at identifying, fostering, and preparing gifted students for international competitions. Team members were selected after successfully completing rigorous national assessments and participating in high-level scientific training camps conducted by expert local and international trainers.
This marks Saudi Arabia’s 14th participation in this Olympiad, bringing the Kingdom’s overall medal count to 11 gold, 24 silver, and 29 bronze medals, reflecting a steady improvement in the quality of Saudi participation year after year. In comparison, the Kingdom’s previous participation resulted in one silver and four bronze medals.
The JBMO, inaugurated in 1997 in Yugoslavia, is an annual event for students under 15, limited to six participants per team, and hosted by Balkan countries in rotation along with Cyprus. The competition challenges students to solve high-level mathematical problems in a single day, making it a prestigious regional competition mathematics discipline.
