The Saudi Physics Team achieved a remarkable scientific milestone by winning four international medals at the 55th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2025, held in Paris, France, from July 17–25, with 425 students from 85 countries participating.
Mazen Al-Shakhs – the General Directorate of Education in Ahsa, won a silver medal, while Hussein Al-Saleh – the General Administration of Education in Riyadh, Mohammed Al-Arfaj and Ali Al-Hassan – the General Directorate of Education in the Eastern Province, won bronze medals.
With these results, Saudi Arabia’s cumulative tally in this competition reached 7 silver medals, 23 bronze medals, and 22 certificates of appreciation, marking yet another achievement in the Kingdom’s ongoing record of success on the global scientific competitions.
These honorable achievements by Saudi students are the result of thousands of hours of intensive training provided by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education and Saudi Aramco, the exclusive sponsor.
The International Physics Olympiad (IPhO), with Saudi participation beginning in 2011, stands as one of the world’s most prestigious scientific competitions. First held in 1967 in Poland, the IPhO aims to develop students’ skills in creative thinking, scientific analysis, and problem-solving.
This participation forms part of the Mawhiba International Olympiad Program, which seeks to empower young national gifted people and prepare them for global competition across various scientific and innovation disciplines.
