The Saudi National Math Team returned home today via King Khalid International Airport (KKIA), proudly carrying six international awards won at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2025, held in Sunshine Coast, Australia, from July 10 to 20. The competition drew 630 students from 110 countries.

Saudi students secured three bronze medals and three certificates of appreciation at this Olympiad as part of the Kingdom’s ongoing participation in global scientific competitions supervised by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education. This brings Saudi Arabia’s overall tally in the IMO to 12 silver medals, 48 bronze medals, and 22 certificates of appreciation.

The bronze medals were won by Yousef Ayman Bakhit (Royal Commission of Education in Yanbu), Abdul-Salam Abdullah Al-Sulami (General Directorate of Education in Madinah), and Moath Saeed Al-Qahtani (General Directorate of Education in the Eastern Province). The certificates of appreciation went to Ahmed Fareed Al-Khalawi (General Directorate of Education in Jeddah), Ahmed Saad Al-Shahri (General Directorate of Education in Riyadh), and Mohammed Ahmed Al-Ghamdi (General Directorate of Education in the Eastern Province).

The IMO, in which Saudi Arabia is participating for the 22nd time since its debut in 2004, is the most prestigious global competition for secondary students. First held in Romania in 1959 with just seven participating countries, the IMO has now expanded to include over 120 nations from all continents.

Prestigious universities worldwide compete to recruit students participating in the Olympiad, recognizing them for their exceptional skills in logical reasoning, probability theory, statistics, and handling complex data with precise forward-looking insights.
